AIR LINER CRASHES.
PILOT AND MECHANIC KILLED. (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z AND SUN CABLE.) LONDON, March 11. A Paris-London air liner was forced down in the Channel in a violent snowsquall. No passengers were being carried. The pilot and mechanic are dead. A pilot of the Imperial Airways, who flew over the wreckage, reported that the driftwood covered an area of half a mile. He is of the opinion that engine trouble was experienced simultaneously with running into the. snowstorm, and, with vision blocked out, the machine flew straight, into the water, striking it at a terrific speed. The pilot, with his legs broken, and the mechanic, with head injuries, were instantly killed.
PASSENGERS' LUCKY ESCAPE. (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received March 12th, 7.30 p.m.) PARIS, March 11. It is noteworthy that the Goliath aeroplane on Saturday was forced down by bad weather at Calais. When the pilot decided to continue to-day, three passengers declined the risk of the Channel crossing, and thus had a happy escape.
