SWIMMING.

TO-MORROWS CARNIVAL. The New Zealand Olympic swimming representatives, D. P. Lindsay and L. J. Moorhouse, are to swim at the Canterbury Swimming Centre's big carnival in aid of the Olympic funds at the Tepid Baths to-morrow evening. Lindsay is to attack his own freshwater New Zealand half-milo record of llmin 45 4-ssec. He is fit and confident, and it is fully expected that ho will be successful in setting new figures for the distance. Whether ho does or not, his swim will be well worth seeing. Moorhouse will set a New Zealand record for 200 metres backstroke. There is no record for this distance at present for backstroke swimming, and it will be interesting to compare Moorbouse's time with the world's record of 2min 38 4-ssec. Moorhouse is wonderfully fit. and he swims a beautiful baekstroke. The balance of the programme is varied and should provide excellent entertainment. The 440 yds intermediate boys' championship has attracted a field of the four best boys in the province, and a close finish should result. Masters Jack Mocdonald, George Lowe, and J Hunter, the boys who represented Canterbury in the junior division at the New Zealand championships, will compete in the 100 yds junior boys' championship of Canterbury. -V feature of the programme will be the diving display?- The speed swimmers are being well catered for also, and what with speed swimming and record breaking and the capers of the diving troupe there should not be a dull moment all the evening. The carnival will commence at 7.30 p.m.
