RIFLE SHOOTING.
TERRITORIAL CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. (PRESS ASBOCIATIOH TELEGBAM.) TRENTHAM, March 12. The New Zealand Array sixth annual rifle meeting opens on Tuesday, and continues for five days. Territorials are arriving from all parts of the Dominion. At present 500 are in camp, and it is expected the numbsr will reach 700. The object of the meeting is to promote interest in weapon training for service purposes by means of individual and collective competition framed to induce practice in methods which will lead to increased efficiency on the battlefield. There are four practices in Match 1., which includes rapid firing, snap shooting, deliberate shooting, and movement shooting. The champion shot of the Army will be the competitor credited with the highest aggregate score in all practices, and will be awarded a Belt and gold medal. Money prizes will also be awarded. In addition, there are matches for trophies at piles and moving targets for teams of competitors with machine, Lewis, and Hotchkiss guns, 'and night firing. There are also a cadets' championship and battle practice. The weather conditions are favourable for a successful gathering.
