ROWING.

SUMNER-REDCLIFFS CLUB. PUBLIC MEETING. A public meeting was held hi the Redcliffs Community Hall last night to consider ways and means of raising funds for the Sumner-Redclilrs Rowing Club. Amongst those present were a large number of ladies. The president of the club, Mr D. Neave, presided, and said that the object of ,tlie meeting was to further the interests of the club. At this stage the members were showing proficiency in their rowing, yet there were no boats to enable them to make further progress. They wanted financial help to buy new boats. He tendered apologies for the absence of the Mayor (Mr W. 11. Nicholson), Mesdames Shand, Oldridge, Neville, and Mr Oldridge, and asked one of the club coaches, Mr R. Moor, to apeak. Mr Moor said that this year the club had been more successful than for a number of years. At Lyttelton, Akaroa. Kairaki, and Kaiapoi they had rowed with success, and this was the first year they had sent a crew to the North Island. At Wellington, out of eleven crews, the local crew came fourth in spite of an unfavourable position. The club now had only one boat of any use. Rowing was ;i very expensive sport, and if they decided to purchase a now racing four, they would need at least £7O. So far they had had to borrow boats from the Canterbury and Avon Clubs. He was anxious, also, to see them with two pair-oar convertible boats; at a cost of £9O. If the members worked, -then with the help of the citizens they had a good chance to raise the money. The chairman said that one family had promised £6 If ten others would raise the same sum.

The meeting decided to hold a bazaar and the following general committee was elected: —Mesdames P. Truscott G H. Woods. A. Kins, W. Wells, M. Shand, J. T). Oldridge, R. Reid, Misses Ellis (3) M. Wood. M. Hullett. M. Watson, T. Barrow, and R. Fox. and Messrs Hart. R. Hoor. jr. Hullett, J. Gilby. 0. Johnson. 11. Truscott, R. Heid. E. Hullett. G. A. D. Sutherland, L. S. Woods. M.
