Commander Richard Byrd has announced that his South Pole expedition woud cost 500,000 dollars. He would leave about September 1. The flight personnel for the actual air dash from the Ross Ice Barrier base to the Pole would be Commander Byrd, Mr Bert Balchen, and Lieutenant Floyd Bennett. A special three-motor Ford allmetal 'plane, besides three others, would be used on the expedition, which would occupy from 18 months to three years.
