STRAITS OF GIBRALTAR.
MISS GLEITZ FAILS AGAIN. (B7 CABLE—PMSS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIA* AND V.Z. ADD SOU CABLX.) GIBRALTAR, March 11. Miss Mercedes Gleitz started at noon from Tarifa to swim the Strait of Gibraltar. (ATTSTBALIAH AND K.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received March 13th, 1.10 a.m.) GIBRALTAR, March 12. Miss Gleitz gave up in an exhausted condition 11} miles from the African coast after swimming for 7hrs 45min. The water was choppy in the later stages.
[Miss Mercedes Gleitz, the London typist and Channel swimmer, made a previous attempt to swim the Strait.of Gibraltar from Tangier on December 17th, but gave up after seven and a half hours- in rough water. She was also forced to abandon her second attempt in whieh she covered 26 miles, remaining in the water for 12 hours.]
