The president and council of the Canterbury Society of Arts have issued invitations for a conversazione and private view in the Art Gallery next Thursday evening. Mr and Mrs Waddel and Miss Waddel, English tourists, who are at present the guests .of their cousin, Mrs Marshall, Upper Riccarton, have been much impressed by the grandeur of the New Zealand scenery, and the genial hospitality extended to tourists at the various resorts. Leaving Liverpool Mr and Mrs Waddel travelled over the Canadian Pacific Railway, and from Vancouver to Japan: then to Shanghai and Nagasaki and Houg-Kong, attending: the service at the Cenotaph in Hong-Kong on Armistice Day. Mr and Mw.Waddel and daughter travelled through Australia to the Blue Mountains and other spots of interest, fn New Zealand they were charmed with the wonders of Rotorua and the Waitomo Caves in'the north, and with the grandeur of Mount Cook, Queenstown, and the Southern Lakes.

On Saturday evening a surprise party organised by Miss E. Piatt, visited the home of Mr and Mrs Fred Scott, Bristol street, St.. Albans. Games, and dancing passed the evening very pleasantly. Mr E.
