SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. The Mayor (Mr G. J. Wallace) has returned from a visit to Wellington. Detective J. Walsh (Wanganui). who was visiting Tirnaru, has left for Dunedin. Kurow Electricity Scheme. In reply to a deputation which waited on him on the railway station, on his <vay south, the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. Mr Williams) stated that he intended to visit Kurow on his return and would be prepared to discuss the Government's electricity scheme with representatives of interested bodies. The South Canterbury local bodies to meet the Minister will include the Chamber of Commerce aud the Power Board. Angling. Excellent fishing was obtained by anglers during the week-end. Several parties from Timaru the Kangitata, where some good bags of salmon were secured. All the rivers were clear and in fairly good condition. General News. A number of the sailors from H.M.S. Laburnum paraded at tlie morning service at St. Mary's Church yesterday. Under the will of the late Mr James Shepherd, of Suthcrlands, provision has been made for the payment of £IOOO to the Tiniaru branch of the Presbyterian Social Service Association. A further £IOO has been left to the building fund of the Presbyterian Church at Pleasant Point.
