Visitors Entertained. Between the morning and afternoon games the visitors were entertained at luncheon by the St. Albans Club. Jlr AT. Angus, president of the St. Albana Club, in proposing the toast of the visitors, said the St. Albans Club would never forget the . hospitality shown on the occasion of their to Wellington. He paid a tribute

to Mr H. P. Dobbs, who had bom instm mental in arranging the annual games between the two clubs, also to Mr Oakcy, who hud presented the Silver Kitty, for which the clubs competed. Howls was essentially a competitive same, and it also led to new friendships. From what lie conld see liinie was no danger of the matches lapsing from lack of enthusiasm, at least as far tn the St. Albans Club was concerned, anil he had no doubt that the Wellington players weie equally enthusiastic. Mr Marcus Marks, president of the Victoria Club, responding, said that Mr Angus s remarks had Riven him emit pleasure l , and he could assure the St. Albans Club that the Victoria Club wan as keen to see the. annual matches continued as the local players. Howls was in a different category from other more strenuous games. It was a came for middleaged men, and its social side counted for more than tho game itself. With regard to the suggestion of some players that teams which wont overseas to play should not lie allowed to taku part in Test games, li» would tako the opportunity of making it knoivli that he entirely disapproved of such views. "If you are looking to me to promote professionalism in bowls you nro looking, to tho wrong inan," ho went on. liowls was essentially a pastime, and tile social side meant everything to it. It might be said that ho was a poor bowler himself and his views wcro thus influenced; and that if tin were a better bowler his opinions concerning the mattor would bo different, but be could not conceive it possible that he could ever bo induced to alter his view that the best side of bowls was the social side. Any other view would, to him, bo abhorrent. Mr .T. Keith, of the Victoria Club, in proposing tho toast of tho St, Albans Club, said lie hoped that next year tho St. Albans Club would send a strong representation to Wellington. Mr J. R. Cnningham, of the St. Album Olub, in proposing the toast of tho donor of the trophy, drew attention to the recent decision of Mr Justico Adams to the effect that euchre players for prizes was illegal. This would mean that bowling for trophies would also probably be illegal. Mr Oakey, in responding, said he regretted that tho champion rink was nnablo to play in tho match for the St. Albans Club, as it was engaged in representing tho club in the champion rinks competition. lie hoped that he would .bo nble to soo tho trophy played for fnr many years after ho himself was unable In participate in the game.
