EXCURSION TO OARO.

BY RAIL AND ROAD. Those who took advantage of the Railway Department's excursion to Oaro, on the main road to Kaikoura, yesterday, enjoyed the outing thoroughly, the weather being ideal and the beauty of land and seascape well repaying the early start from Christchurch.

A two hours' train journey ended at Parnassus, where the motors of Kaikoura United Service, and Curraii's Motors awaited the arrival of the excursionists. From there the route was along the famous Kiakoura road, amidst a wealth of luxurious native bush with the Alps visible over ranges ot' smaller mountains and hills, and a stream far below in the vallev.

At Oaro. on a beautiful stretch ot beach, with the rollers breaking in from the Pacific, skirted by bush, hot water and tea were available, and the party was able to break into groups for luncheon before setting out to spend a long "liternoon exploring the bush or admiring the variety of scenery. Mr F. Pawson, the Railway Department's commercial agent, who organised the excursion, told a rcpresenta tivo of The Press that it was unlikely that another trip will be made to Oaro this season, but it is possible that next siimmer further excursions mat be run '"lt seems, however," said Mr Pawson. "that most of those who make thes° trips do not like the cost to exceed 12s Cxi to los per head, and I think the Department will confine its excurfirtns mainly to places where such a charge is possible."
