NEW BRIGHTON GALA.

A GREAT SUCCESS. Side-shows with their usual fascinating mysteries, chocolate alleys, with thoir continual appeal to young and old, and a dozen other attractions where one could spend time and money with, the greatest of pleasure, added considerably to ;the success of the New Brighton Gala, held on Saturday afternoon and evening in perfect weather.

After the official opening ceremony, at which the Mayor, Mr A. W. Owles, spoke, a very large crowd assembled to watch a fine exhibition of gymnastics by pupils of Mr Charles Buckett. Hakas, poi dances, songs, and instrumental items were given by Maoris from Kaiapoi; then jazz bands and brass bands took part, and everything possible to make the ga'a a success was done. .

Late in the evening/there was a brilliant display of coloured fire by the New Brighton Fire Brigade, and the day closed with a unique treasure hunt, which attracted large entries. There was a very fine parade of fancy costumes during the evening.
