COUNTY COUNCILS.

SPRINGS. The monthly meeting of the Springs County Council'was held at Springston on Thursday, when there were present: Cre. A. Thompson (chairman), C. H. Watson, J. H. Williams, and J. S. Simpson. The Council decided to make a grant of £7 10a to the Lincoln Recreation Ground Committee. The chairman reported that the tender of Mr W. Lugg, at £5 for the Springston riding and £1 for the Greenpark riding, had been accepted for the right to cut cocksfoot on the public roads. A tender of BJd each, including tage, was accepted for the supply of dog colters. The dog registration fees were fixed as last year, 2s 6d for sheep and cattle dogs and 106 for all others. Mr F. W Sheasby was reappointed dog ranger. The chairman reported having attended a meeting of the Highways District Council, at which applications from various local bodies to have certain, roads declared secondary highways had been considered. Springs County had 19 miles of main highwavs. It had • applied to have 11 miles declared secondary highways, and the Board had agreed to recommend the lengths applied for. The group had 332 miles of main highways and the total of the lengths to be recommended as secondary highways was 240J miles. It was decided to protest against a proposal to have Shand's Track declared a secondary highway, as it was too close to the Springs road and did not carry as much traffic as Waterholes road. In connexion with the traffic tally taken on Day's road, leading to Selwyn Huts and Coe's Ford, during the first week in January, the clerk reported that 34 lorries, 29 buses, 145 motor-cycles, and 1732 cars had passed. . . Authority was given the engineer to make an experiment on the road adjacent to the Lincoln bridge with a tar preparation. The engineer was directed to prepare plans and specifications for the replacing of two wooden bridges on the main highway, Springston to Ellesmere, with concrete structures. The financial statement gave the balances as follows: Springston riding, credit £1773 14s 3d; Greenpark riding, debit £4lO 8s Id.
