N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. CANTERBURY WINS SHIELD. (KSEBS ASSOCIATION TELEOBAM.) DUNEDIN, January 27. The New Zealand Swimming Championships were concluded to-night, and, as on previous nights, there was a splendid attendance. Mainly through the instrumentality of Lindsay, Canterbury took the Yaldhurst Shield with 50 points, Otago being runners-up with 29 points; Auckland, with 29 points, was third. The War Memorial Shield was taken by Wellington, with a total of 5 points. Lindsay put up a great swim in the 440 yds Championship, and after three laps the other competitors were hopelessly out of it, the champion going on to win as he liked by 25 yards in the record time of smin 28 l-ssec. Miss K. Miller also returned astonishing time for the same distance, which she covered in 6min 9 2-ssec, 32 seconds under the previous record. The only other starter, Miss D. Grant, of Auckland, was more than a lap behind when the winner touched. The Wellington flyer, Cameron, had no difficulty with the opposition in the 100 yards intermediate breaststroke event, and although at one stage he was strongly challenged by D. Magee, of Auckland, the champion drew away, and won somewhat easily by 3 yards. Miss Pidgeon was the only competitor in the 220 yards ladies' breaststroke championship, and succeeded in lowering the existing record by 4 4-ssec. K. Calder had no difficulty in retaining his diving title, and another Otago man, H. E. Walker, was runner up. Hicks, of Wellington, who was third, gave a good exhibition, but his display lacked the finish of Calder and Walker. At no time was Miss Hood's diving title j in danger and she won by a substantial j margin of points. Besults:
