BOWLING.

dominion tournament. PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP. "YESTERDAY'S PLAY. Good treat her continues to favour the New Zealand Bowling championship tournament, yesterday's play taking in P leasa,lt condl ' Hons, except that a moderate easterly wind made the flighting of the bowls difficult at times. The fifth round of the pairs championship was concluded in the afternoon, and the section winners and in some instances the green winners were discovered. The remainder of the green winners will be found this morning, after which the green champions will continue in post-sec-tional play. The decision will be "sudden death."

The 1923 champions, W. McCallum and T. Edwards (Temuka), came through the sectional play without a loss, but J. N. Du Feu and E. A. Smith (St. Albans) defeated them by 25 to 35 in the play-off for green winners. A similar fate befell J. Angus and J. A. Eedpath (Canterbury), who won the ehampiouship iu 192-i. They tied for top place iu the sectional play with J. Kershaw and W. Fielding (Hataitai), both pairs having one loss, and in the play-off were beaten by 18 to 17. M. Walker (Auckland), who, with A. Brackenbush, won the pairs championship last year, is partnered this year by C. Muston. They scored only four wins in their section, failing to qualify. One of the great surprises of the pairs championship was the remarkable reversal of form of J. Kerr (Masterton), whose double lost every game. In the rinks championship Kerr's team, mainly through the excellent play of the skip, was the only one to go right through the nine rounds of sectional play without a loss. In the play-off in Section A between Opawa (S. Maddren and A. F. Rollinson) and Canterbury (T. A. Cherry and B. J. Finnegan) on the Sydenham green, after 21 heads the score was even—l 7 all. An extra head was played in semi-darkness. Opawa scored a single and qualified. This morning rinks will be played on St. Albans green, the green winners will be decided at Linwood, and the singles will be continued at Sydenham. Doubles will be played at Edgeware this afternoon. .

One of the events of the tournament, the North v. South Island match, will take place this afternoon on the Canterbury Club's green, when the visitors will be entertained by the president of the Now Zealand Bowling Association (Mr A. J". Benzie) and Mrs Benzie.
