RANGIORA. (Before Mr E.' D. Mosley, S.IT.) John Robertson Campbell, 20 years of age, appeared on remand on a charge of the theft of £lO 15s from Mary . Anne Cairns, at the Jfandeville Hotel, Kaiapoi, on December 28th; also on a charge of the theft of £2 14s from Kathleen Dodd, housemaid at the Gust Hotel, on January 12tli, and £4 from David Rodgers, licensee of the Junction Hotel, Rangiora, on January 15th. He pleaded guilty, and was convicted and ordered to be detained in the Borstal Institute for a term not exceeding two years. • William Bryden, road contractor (Sefton), for failing to stop his motor-car at the High street crossing, Rangiora, when requested to do so by the railway crossing-keeper, was convicted and fined 40s and costs, £1 14s, BREACHES OF LICENSING LAWS.

Bank Hotel, was charged with permitting drunkenness on licensed premises,- selling liquor on licensed premises after hours, and opening his premises for the sale of liquor. Mr Thomas appeared for defendant, and pleaded galty to all charges, and asked for leniency. Defendant "was convicted, fined £5 and costs 10s on the first charge, and convicted and discharged on the second charge. For selling liquor after hours he was convicted and fined 40s and costs 10s. On the other chargeß he was convicted and discharged. • Owing to the good record of the defendant, and aB the license had since been sold, the Magistrate said he would not endorse the license.
