"THE CRADLE SNATCHERS » A FAMOUS FARCE-COMEDY COMIKG. "Cradle Snatchers," the famous farce-com-edy to be presented at Christchurch on Thursday by the specially selected J. C. Williamson Company, will be played by/a number of well-known artists who have all mado international reputations, Bnd who are making their first appearance in this part of the world. Miss Clivc Sloane, who portrays thc part of tho principal cradle snatcher, is an English actress who is a London favourite, for she has played the leading feminine role in many West End productions. Thc other two cradle snatchers are Misses Bertha Belmore and Jessamine Xewcombe, who also come to us with big reputations made in the principal cities of the world. The parts of thc threo young men who figure so prominently in the comedy will be played by Maury Tuckerman, Fred Conyngham, and Jack Hal'loran, and other well-known actors and actresses in the cast are Herbert Belmore, Sidney Sterling, Lucille Lisle, Babette Odeal. Arthur Conyngham, Clair St. Claire, Geoffrey Cfunn, and PJmma Gibbs. Reference has been made in some papers to the fact :hat when this highly amusing furco was at Melbourno n protest was mado by a body called the Union Social Questions Committee. It was also stated that by order of tho Chief Under-Secretary, tho attention of tho police was directed to the play. It is only fair to state, however, that as thc result of the special police report tho Under-Secretary subsequently stated that there wore no grounds on which he could take action —tho report stating that the comody was too ludicrous to be either obscene or indecent, and should not be taken seriously. J. C. Williamson, Ltd., and Messrs J. and X. TrU have established an enviable reputation for the high standard of their theatrical enterprises, and they have achieved this by the discrimination shown by their selection of plays. "The Cradle Snatcliers" is a farcical comedy, and the particular part to which exception was. taken was but a joke on the part of three ladies at a protest against their husbanda leaving them so frequently to go on "duck-shooting expeditions." In this particular connexion tho police report said: —"Tho love passages were too ludicrous to bo even suggestive of indecency, and that everyono of the large audience took tho whole thing as a joke, as it was no doubt meant to be." Tho box plans for "The Cradle Snatchers" are at Thc Bristol Piano Company.
