FIVE TONS OF PERIODICALS

' Five tons of Christmas periodicals were received at the General Post Office yesterday! 129 bags of mail being forwarded to Wellington to be shipped Homo in the Rotorua, which sails today. This was the last direct mail which will carry newspapers and periodicals to England in time for Christmas. They will arrive in London on December ISth. The ordinary Christmas mails will close in about a week's time. "The number of New Zealand periodicals we have put through this year constitutes a record," said Mr 8. W Brookcr, acting-supervisor of mails, to a representative of TnE Press. "Judging bv present indications I expect that the Christmas mails this year will be exceptionally heavy."
