U.S. NAVY.
PROPOSED INCREASES. (bt cabli—puss amoctatiok—coitwobt) (AUSTRALIA* AND CABLI ASSOCIATION.) WASHINGTON, November 6. Mr F. A. Britten, representing the House Naval Committee, announced that a five-year building programme, providing for thirty additional 10,000 ton cruisers and five aeroplane carriers, with a total expenditure of 400,000,000 dollars will be proposed to Oongres3 during the December session. Mr Britten contends that it is the duty of the United States to enlarge the Navy within the limits of the Washington Treaty and believes that steps in that direction should be taken immediately. He says that the strength of Britain and Japan is growing.
