♦- Mr W. B. Mcllveney, Com'missionftr of Police, is at present in Christchureh. He is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr A. W., Beaven has returned to Christchureh from a holiday trip to Southland.
Mr Walter Wakelin, of Whangarei, spent the week-end in the City, and will leave-for the nOrth this evening.
Mr A. J. Murdoch, who represented Marsden in the 1922-25 Parliament, has consented to be a candidate at the elections next year .--Press Association. Colonel J. N. McCarrOll, CM.G., 8.5.0., Commander of the Ist New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade, is among the visitors to Christchureh for Carnival Week. Guests, at the United Service Hotel include: Messrs A. McKay (Masterton), J. F. Mitchell ([Liverpool), H. V. Squire (Wellington), D. R. Revell (Auckland), and I. McWilliam (Wellington)'. ■ ■ Major C. D.S.O., New Zealand Medical Corps, has been granted tho temporary rank of lieuten-ant-eolenel while holding the appointment of assistant director of medical services, Southern Command. Recent arrivals at Warner's Hotel include: Messrs H. A. Brown, R. G. Ross. C. J. Eskell, F. W. Millar, J. McDonald, C. E. Robertson, R. F. Lynch, B. Austin (Wellington), A, Court, and R. Norton (Auckland).
Messrs D. Riley (Wellington), A. McDonald (Masterton), W. R. Kemball (Wellington), D. J. Ross (Hillgrove), G. Ross (PalmSrston), T. R. Rhodes (Timaru), and W. Zieslcr (Wanganui) are among the recent arrivals at the Clarendon Hotel.
Information has been received that Dr. W. Victor Bonney, chief surgeon of the 'Chelsea Hospital for Women, will leave England early in January for New Zealand and, after attending the B.M.A. Conference, at Hamilton, will, at the invitation of the Obstetrical Society, spend a few weeks touring the Dominion to study local conditions affecting midwifery and meeting members of the Obstetrical Societv m their own localities, states a New 'Plymouth Press Association message.
