FRENCH PLAYERS. MAY VISIT NEW ZEALAND. Regarding the proposed -visit of the French tennis players to Australia at the end of:the year,, Mr J. H. Kirk, president o! the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, informed a reporter -yesterday that .every effort was being made by the Management Committee, in Wellington, for the team to visit New Zealand, and that cable communications have been sent to the French Lawn Tennis Association, and to the New Zealand Association's representative in London regarding the matter.- It was.hoped to hear at an early date of the result:of those representations. The secretary of the Australian Lawn Tennis Association had advised that his Association would do its best to have New Zealand included in the visiting players' itinerary. Mr Kirfe added that tennis players and the general public could rest assured that if the visit of those celebrated players is at all possible, the necessary financial arrangements would be made. The Hisses Macfarlane (Auckland) and Hiss M. Lowry are among the entrants. • In , the second round of the ladies' singles (South.of England challenge cup) Miss Mariorie Macfarlane beat Mrs W. R. Collins, G-4, . 12-10, but later she was defeated .by Miss I. M. Pratt, 6-4, 8-6. In the ladies' doubles, Miss M. Lowry and, her partner, Miss B. Fox, were victorious against Miss K. Daly and Miss Q. Foster, 6-1, 6-0; they next defeated Miss Duggan and Miss Kelly, 6-1, 6-3, but in the third, match they met Aheir victors in Miss J.' C. Ridley and Miss E. A. Goldeack, 6-3, 6-2.. After Tinning their match against Miss W. F. Coleman and Miss M. K. Sterns, 6-3, 6-4, the Misses MaTJorte and Marian Macfarlane were beaten by Miss M. Slaney and Mrs C. M. B. Marriott, 6-4, 6-4. In the mixed doubles contest, Miss Marjorie Macfarlane and Mr M. T. Hill beat Mr H. Hulton-Harrop and Miss .Hulton-Harrop, 6-1, 6-0. In the third round they were successful against Mr Doeley an I Miss Lacy, 6-2, 6-0, and yesterday, in the third round, they were victorious against Mr A. D. Prebble and Miss S. C. Lumley Ellis, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1. Mies Marian Macfarlane's partner was Mr N. B. Deane, and after beating Mr E. R.' Avory and Miss B. Fox, 6-2, 6-4, they found their victors in Mr Prebble and Miss Lumley Ellis, 9-7, 6-3. Miss M. Lowry and her partner, Mr T. B. Barker, succumijed to Mr E. C. Peters and Miss M. Slaney, 6-0, 6-4, in the eecond round.
