ENGLISH CUP FINAL. VILLA BEAT NOMADS. The senior grado competition of the Canterbury' Football Association finished on Saturday, when Villa contested the is3tio with Nomads for possession of the English Cup. On five occasions Rinco tho club's inception sixteen years ago Nomads havo won tho premier trophy, a romarkable record. On the other hand, Saturday's match was tho first occasion on which Villa had reached the final for the cup, and their exhibition demonstrated their worthiness to attain that distinction. The play of Nomads was much bolow par, and in winning by two clear goals Villa demonstrated a superiority in every department. There was a good attondanco of spectators, and weather conditions were excellent. The teams lined out as follows: Nomads (blue)— Goal, J. McDougall; fullbacks, F. Graham (captain), J. From a free-kick to Nomads, Graham drove a hot shot into Jackson's hands, and for a period the Blues attacked strongly.. Howarth finally gained relief for Villa, and Mulcahy and Jves took play-to the other end. Leslie snapped up from Ives and narrowly missed with a great cross-shot. Lively exchanges followed until McOreanoT initiated a v sharp Nomads' attack. Frickleton and Wilson made ground, and Jackson, in goal, was lucky to clear from a centre. At this stage Nomads were showing superior positional play and were the more dangerous In attack. Jrom midfiold Villa broke away on ,the left, with Ives and Leslie prominent. Tricky play gave Berry possession, and he skimmed the cross-bar'from close in". _ Villa continued to press, and from a meleo in the Nomads' goal Leslie registered from close in. Frickleton centred for Trotter to head to goal. Jackson jumped for the ball, and turned it out for a corner, which was abortive. Villa replied frfan right to left. On the other hand, Villa were Playing well within themselves. From half-way Purvos broke away for Nomads with a tricky run, but his clinching shot was yardß wide of the target. Another run by Purves gave Frickleton possession and a corner-kick resulted. From tha ensuing kick McCreanor narrowly missed with a cross-drive. In beautifully fine'weather to-day, before a large attendance of the public, West Coast wrested the-' Emms Shield from the Buller Soccer representatives by four goals to one. Godst had the advantage of wind and sun in the first spell, but, though often attacking, could not score. Buller also narrowly missed numerous scoring chances. Coast against the wind and sun in the second spell played more carefully and wjth better combination and Rarity, Marshall, and Barnes (2) shot beautiful goals after pretty combined play.
