RUGBY. HURUNUI SUB-UNION. The Hurunui Sub-L~uion held its annual tournament at Culverder. on Saturdi'v afternoon. The weather was ideal and th' cround in good order, but the Ivaikoura •ind the Waikari Clubs failed to send teams, 'id owing to counter-attractions in Christchurch some of the other teams were much below 'ull strength. In consequence the tournament was not nearly so interesting as it otherwise would have been. The Geraldino Sports Association held its annual seven-a-side Rugby tournament on (he Domain on Saturday. CANTERBURY CENTRE MEETS. Last night members of the executive of the Canterbury Rugby League met. Present: Messrs W. Colo (chairman), "W. Smith, E. L. McKcon, F. Sheahan, P. Kirton, L. Cox, E. Jones, and 11.I 1 . Smyth. The Otago Centre wrote stating that Canterbury's challenge for the Gore Cup had beeu accepted. October Ist was suggested as the date for the representative match at Dunodin between Canterbury and Otago. Permission was granted to the Linwood Club to play a Potono junior team at Liuwood Park on Saturday, August 28th, und to send a fifth grade combination to Petone, under the management of Mr W. Desmond. It was decided to hold the sevon-a-side tournament on September 10th, nominations and entry fees (schoolboys froo) to be in by September sth. Playors were registered for the Hornby and ex-West Coast Clubs. It was resolved that the junior competition be of one round, and that the four leading teams play off for the final. In view of the visit to Canterbury of the Creymouth Marist third grade team, the following matches wero arranged:—Saturday uoxt, v. Templeton, at Templeton; Monday, August 22nd, v. Christchurch. Marist, at Monica Park. Junior Advisory Board. The Junior Advisory Board also met last night, Mr H. Lawrence presiding. Owing to bad weather conditions prevailing, tie ground was waterlogged and wholly unfit for footbail, and this, together with their hard game against Builer on Saturday, militated against the visitors making a better display.
