TEMUKA.

PERSONAL. Mr E. Lee, a member of the staff of the Bank of Australasia at Eltham, and who was a prominent footballer in Temuka up till near the end of last season, has been spending a; short holiday here. Druids' Lodge Social. There was a splendid attendance of the Temuka Druids' Lodge members on Monday evening, when Arch-Druid S. J. Douglas presided. The president of the No. 5 District, Bro. W. Castles, and Arch-Druid A. McKeevev and members of the Timaru Lodge, were also present. At the close of the formal Lodge business, lady friends of the members were admitted and the evening was devoted to progressive euchre and dancing. In the card playing, the men's prize (given by Bro. Z. Kay) was won by Mr J. Fisher, the winner of the ladies' prize (given by Bro. A. R. Beck) being . found in Mrs Pulford. Consolation prizes went to Miss M. Elder and Bro. W. Castles, Timaru. The music for the dance was supplied by Bro. J. Looker. Golf. On Saturday last,. Temuka and Geraldine Golf Clubs (men and ladies) played a match, the men finishing all square and the Temuka ladies being badly down.

PLEASANT POINT. The Miniature Rifle Club held its weekly shoot on Monday, when H. Roberts won the weekly button. The best scores off the rifle were: —F. Wilson 68, T. Forrest 68, H. Roberts 67, F. E. Kendall 67, H. Fergusson 66, W. Taylor 66, H. Thoreau 66, J. Stevenson 65, B. Elms 65, F. Birse 65. The third of the series of euchres was again well patronised. After some veep interesting games Mrs Brown and Messrs Brown, Bodholdt, Felton, and McLeod tied with 10 games. In the play-off Mr McLeod secured first prize ancl Mr Bodholdt second. Miss F. Double won the consolation. Both prizes were given by two anonymous supporters of the school. The Public Hall was crowded on Friday night, when Mr McCarthy, who had been postmaster for the past five and a half years, was given a fitting send-off on the eve of his departure to Waiuka on promotion. Mr M. F. Maze presided. The Rev. Father Bartley, on behalf of St. Mary's, handed Mr McCarthy a small .token of their high appreciation of-his great services to them. The chairman then presented Mr McCarthy with a well-filled wallet of notes on behalf of the residents of the district. Mr McCarthy suitably responded. After the presentation a dance was held.

ST. ANDREWS. The Eifle Club has decided to devote the best part of a credit balance of £35 towards making the range absolutely safe. This action is the outcome of the. last shoot, -when stray bullets were going through the wall on to the street past the po!ice_ station. It is expected that the new improvements will be finished for Monday night's shoot. The secretary, Mr H. Push, has resigned from that position, and Mr W. Henderson has been elected to fill the vacancy. At an enthusiastic meeting of ladies in the Library recently, it was unanimously decided to form a branch of the Voluntary Aid Society. Nurse Christian was present and laid the aims of the society before the meeting. Mrs E. Hatton was elected Commandant, Mrs O'Loufchhn Lieutenant, and the following were appointed a committee:—Mesdames Higginson and A. F*ance, Misses Reta Gray and N: Hammond. It was decided that the branch meet once a month. The St. Andrew's School Committee held their usual euchre party in one of the school classrooms. There was a large attendance. Miss O'Loughlin and Mr, W Richards won the first prizes and Miss Kennedy and Mr J. O'Loughlin the consolations. Mr W. Lynes is at present actingstationmnster. Mr H. Bell, stationmaster, is on leave.
