SALARY REDUCTION.

*_ FARMERS' UNION CRITICISED. (iBESS ASSOCMTIOir TBLEOHAM.) HAMILTON, July 19. Mr H. H. Brown, assistant organiser of the Post and Telegraph Association, indulged in sharp comment at the annual reunion of the Waikato and King Country Section of the P. and T. Association last evening, when he severely criticised a movement which he alleged had for its. object the reduction of salaries of Post and Telegraph employees. He vigorously condemned Mr W. G. Poison and the Farmers' Union organisations, which, he suggested, intended to move in a direction which would not improve the salary prospects of P. and T. employees. He proceeded to justify his statements by quoting figures of the Department's growth and said that owing to the existing P. and T. service being essential to the welfare of the country, economies could only be eff.cted by the reduction in P. and T. salaries, which would be inequitable when the wages were compared with those of other occupations fixed by the Arbitration Court on a basis of the present cost of living.
