CAPPING CEREMONIES.

OTAGO STUDENTS* CONDUCT PRAISED. (press association telegram.)

DUNEDIN, July 19. The conduct of Otago University students in their capping celebrations was warmly eulogised at a meeting of the Otago University Council to-day, all members, professors and others, agreeing that no exception could be taken to the hilarious proceedings of the week.

. The Chancellor (Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P.) said that as far as the Otago district was concerned there was no ground for complaint, and though he was not in Dunedin at the time, he desired to express his appreciation of the manner in which the students had conducted themselves throughout the capping. (Members of the Council: Hear, hear.) He was sure if the capping ceremony was carried out in the future as it was carrjed out' last weeK, there was no possible chance of the annual function heing discontinued in Otago. (Hear hear.) Someone said "What about Canterbury?" but the Chancellor apparently did not wish, to make a comparison between Otago and any other place, and he made no reply.
