THE UNEMPLOYED.

TO THE EDITOR 07 TOE PRESS. Sir,—l am pleased to note Mr Henry H. Holland considers my remarks concerning the "Relief Depot'' worthy of an answer, but there is one remark in his letter 1 wish to speak about. I am very surprised, indeed, that he should deliberately misquote my remarks when asking if "Mrs Herbert's position" is purely honorary. I fail to see how lie can twist that to mean that I insinuated that Mrs Herbert was "doing well" out of this work. Perhaps my mind is not as logical as Mr it. Holland's. If not will he kindly tell mo what part of my letter insinuated this thought. Also, he says, "four miles." I understood it was five miles the young fellow was asked to walk. This error may bo considered a trifle, but mon and women, who, like Mr Henry Holland and Mrs Herbert, profess to love the people and the workers, must be verv careful to speak uid net truth, and it was not the truth to say I insinuated any such thought as has been mentioned. There is nothing I would leave undone, nothing I would hot do, to help anyone who knows the misery of unemployment. May I be allowed to say that in my owu quiet, private wav with my small means 1 do what I can in helping a number of families whom 1 personally visit where the husband and father is out of work. —Yours, etc., A WO RKER.
