Old-time records have been found m a house that was built in Cleave avenue, off Cook street, Auckland, soon | after' the arrival of Captain Hob son. _ r The house is in surprisingly good repair after its life of eighty years,- bub is rather behind modern idea's of architecture, and stands on a site that has become too valuable for residential uses. It is being. demolished to make room for business premises. . Underneath the ■wallpaper and the scrim the workmen found copies of newspapers dating back to'lS49 and 'oO, when the'daily news of the nucleus city wag contained in a two-page issue of modest literary pretensions'. Among tne-papers .found were the "New Zeiknder'-'-' and the "Britannia."'
