W.C.T.U, The Women's Christian Temperance Union held its monthly meeting in the "Baring ' square schoolroom on Tuesday [afternoon, when there was a good attendance. ! Thy annual meeting of the Wakanui Hockey Club'was. held in the Wakanui Memorial Hall, when there was a good attendance. Nicoll, J.P., yesterday at the Magistrate's Court, charged with not having sufficient lawful means of support! Teinpleman was remanded to appear before the Magistrate to-morrow. • An application for bail was refused. Complimentary Social. A large gathering of Ashburton citizens and businessriien, who assembled in the Masonic Hall last evening to honour Dr. W. J. Mullin, who is leaving to retire from his profession, for Dunedin, testified to his popularity during his twenty years', residence in Ashburton.';The Mayor (Mr.E. Galbraith) presided!

He was one of the founders of the Shakespeare and Savage Clubs and the Competitions ■ Society., Ho had endeared himself to everyone. He.wished: Dr and Mrs Mulliu long lifo and happiness in their future home. He then presented Dr. Jlullin with a, bound copy of the evening's, programme. . Mr J. Cow paid a tribute to Dr. Mullin's work on the Ashburton Permanent Building and Investment Society. Messrs T. M. Clark (on behalf of the Shakespeare Club and Competitions Society), S. Pritehard (on behalf of the Friendly. Societies' Association), and T. Buckton .(on behalf of the Savage dub) all -testified to the keenness that' Dr. Mulliu had taken in their respective bodies and wished both Dr. and Mrs Mulliu prosperity in their future life. Dr. Mullin thanked them for their kind expressions and their token of regard. Other toasts honoured were: '"'The King," "The Medical Profession." and ".The Chairman." Items were given by Messrs L. J. Watt; H. Naylor. V.-W. Bussell, A. H. Todd.' and W. B. Cadzall. . Municipal Elections. • Interviewed by a representative of The Press the"following members of the present Ashburton Borough Council have announced their intention of seeking nomination in the forthcoming municipal election: —Messrs F. Z. D. Ferriman, B. Kerr, E. A. Collins, W. H. Bobinson, and F. W. Seldon. i Messrs J. W. Bowden and J. Donn stated that they' were not seeking reelection. Messrs B. M. Dunlop and W. G. Rain fell on 13 days,■the maximum fall being 1.41 inehes on the 23rd. The total rainfall for the month was 4.10 inches, a» against 2.47 indies for the same month last year. The total fall for the period .to the end of March, 192(5, was 12.24 inches, while for-the corresponding period this year the -fall was 9.00 inches.

MAYFIELD. A meeting of the A. and P.' Association's General Committee was held in the hall on Monday evening, the president, Mr E. C. D. Withell presiding over the following members, Messrs F.-G. Greenslade, F. G. Roach, E. Burgess, G. Johnston, G. W. Ross, G. -Richardson, D. Duff, J. Blair, D. Morrow, C. W. Gillies, J. Moore, D. Edmonds, S. Corbett, A. V. Barrett, L. .~R. Harrison, A. A. Fleming, and R. Oakley. A motion of sympathy was accorded to Mr C. John : ston and family .in tlie' illness of Mrs Johnston. Correspondence was received from the local Gun Club asking for the use of the Association grounds for their meetings; This was granted.
