The first meeting for the season of tl.e Accountant Students' Society ,vas held on Momlav evening in the Lecture Hall of the Public Librarv, Mr C. C. Holland, the present occupying the chair. Two papers ere' read in the course of the evening, one bv Mr WA. Smith, on A Few Observa. tL's on the Duties of an Executor and the othTr, by Mr R. h. Hicks, on '""Valuations ot Share's forr Probate." Mr Smith dealt in a most pract.ca and instruclive manner with the steps 10 be taken bv tile executor or administrator on the death of the testator or intestate, cit.n? many interesting .cases in connexion with the various points covered. He-.explained fully Ih'e manner of valuing, the various assets for ihP purpose of probate and the procedure followfrisr thereon. Mr IT. L. Hicks. with the a d of b aelboard illustrations, explained thoroushh a most practical m.ethod for the valuation o, shares for probate. He stressed the point that where lets than pis per cent, was being obtained for capital invested, shares could not be said to Be of par "value. .....
