SAILORS' SOCIETY.
LYTTELTON BRANCH. The Lyttelton branch of the British Sailors' Society held its annual meeting last night. The president, Mr J. T. Norton, was in the chair. The report showed that the Institute at LytteUcn had been true to the Society's motto: "In Service for the Sailor." Eleven thousand nine hundred and twenty-seven men had visited the Institute during the year. Two hundred and ninety-six ships had been visited by the superintendent, and IoJ men had received attention while m hospital. Beligious services had been conducted every Sunday evening. Sixty-two seamen had received assistance. The superintendent and Ladies Guild bad done good work throughout the year. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mr J. T Norton; vhe-president, Dr. Erwin; honorary secretary, Mr R. Hatchwell; honorary treasurer, Mr F. \V. Anderson Board members, Mesdames Merry Thacker, Smith, Bishop, and Curnow, Messrs F. Norton, J. Pitcaithly. G. Jamieson, Webb, A. Semmens, the Revs. F. Coursey and T. Curnow and the Hon. L. M. Isitt. Mr H Holland. M.P.. was elected a member of the Society. Short addresses on the work of the Institute were given by the Revs. F. Coursey and T. M. Curnow.
