VALEDICTORY.

Prior to their departure from Cheviot, Mr and Mrs E. Swinerd were the guests of honour at a social evening on Wednesday, when the Sunday school scholars and members of the Band of Hope provided a good programme. After supper, Miss Bessie Truman, on behalf of the Sunday school children, presented Mrs Swinerd with a chubbyumbrella, and on behalf of the Band of Hope, Mr Telfer handed to Mr and Mrs Swinerd a set of stainless cutlery. During the past four, years, Mr and Mrs Swinerd have taken a keen interest in all local clubs, and these were represented at the congregational and friends' social evening '.eld in the social hall on Friday. Mrs Read represented the Croquet Club, Mrs Clifford the W.C.T.U., Mrs Buttle- the Plunket' Society, and Mrs Cone the Ladies' Guild. During an interval in the programme, Mr Telfer asked Mr and Mrs Swinerd to accept a cheque from the congregation and friends as a parting gift, and wished them every success in their new home. Mrs Cone oh behalf of the Presbyterian Ladies Guild said Mrs Swiuerd was the founder a,nd first picsident of the Guild, and . tinder her presidency the fine new manse had recently been erected. On behalf-of the Guild, she presented Mrs Swinerd with a gold wristlet watch. A welcome was also extended to M r and Mrs Anderson. The •Rev. Mr Crockett (Waikari), Rev. Air Lamont (Scargill), and the Rev. G. Widdup occupied seats on the platform.
