ARGENTINE MEAT COMPETITION.
Tne recent contract for the supply of a, million and a half tina of corned beef to the War Office, which was awarded Messrs W. Weddel and Co., Ltd., will be prepared at the firm's new works, the Frigorifico Anglo, at Buenos Ayres, • which were opened a few months ago. Australia, had the contract last year, but the price tendered by Messrs Weddel was considerably cheaper this year. As illustrating the keen competition from the Argentine in the meat export trade, it is reported that a, thoroughly up-to-date refrigerating plant—one of the largest in the world—was inaugurated on January 4th by Messrs Vestey Brothers, at Buenos Ayres. It has » "capacity of 1,500,000 bullocks and 2,500,000 sheep yearly, and gives employment to 3000 hands.
