DOMAIN BOARD. Mr Geo. Dash presided over the meeting of the Waimate Domain Board. Some of the lessees of land from the Board advised that they were not willing to renew their leases at the present rental, and the Board decided to advertise for tenders. Tho tender of Mr A. Smith of 22s Gd per cord for firewood at Knottingly Park was accepted. It was decided to dispose of macrocarpa posts at Is 9d and oak posts at 2s each. Long Distance Badio. While listening to station KFI California, recently, Mr D. G. Ashley, a local radio enthusiast, heard a man there describing a recent trip ho had made to Xew Zealand, and it appeared evident that the visitor to Xew Zealand had enjoyed himself immensely. The reception was wonderfully clear and Mr Ashley used a three-valve set of his own design. Breeze at Council Meeting. There v.as a short breeze at the Borough Council meeting, when the minutes of the previous' meeting came up for adoption, Cr. Stanley Grut stating that the minutes were incorrect, A rather heated discussion ensued, and as an outcome it was agreed that the minutes were a true record of the previous meeting, but lacked sufficient detail. Tho necessary amendments were mado and the meeting proceeded harmoniously. Borough Council. At the moeting of the Borough Council there were present: The Mayor (MiGeorge Dash), and Crs. W. - G. Paul, W. A. Nelson, F. Nash, d'A. Stanley Grut, A. E. Lewis, J. B. Eobinson, H. Smith, and. J. Atwill. The usual grant of £2O to the Plunket Society and the annual subsidy of £2O to the Silver Band were granted. A request from the Waimate Highland Pipe Band for permission to take part in municipal concerts was referred «to the General Committee for a report. • The .Waimate District High School Committee advised, that it was prepared to pay £4O per' annum for a room for a dental clinic if the Council provided the room with drainage, etc. This was referred to the Finance Committee. Permission was granted to the South Canterbury Electric Power. Board to attach a verandah to the Board's premises in Shearman street. The transfers of leases of Borough sections were granted as follows: — Holmes street, V. H. Luscombe, to Mrs C. S. Peck, Moorhouse street; Mrs J. S. Morrison to H. S. Willetts. Two of the four taxi proprietors, Messrs T. Coffey and A. Boyd, requested that they be allowed to remove from' the present taxi-stand in Glasgow street, and stand in Steward street. They also asked that the present telephone number at the stand be given, to the new stand. Councillors approved of the change of stand and the matter of - the telephone was held over till a later date. It was decided that tho Mayor and Cr. Paul inspect and report, on the request of three ratepayers .in Parsonage road "lor 'drainage facilities. : It was ajgreed that the free use of the svvimming baths be given to pupils of the Schools for instructional classes in charge of members of the teaching stafr. It was reported that the estimate for the tar-surfacing, of streets had been greatly exceeded, which had occurred owing to a much larger area being tarred and sanded than was at first planned for, , . . In connexion, with the collection of heavy traffic fcflß. the Mayor reported that t}ie Timaru Council now refused to collect the fees for other councils, and it therefore devolved-on each Council,to collect its own fees. On his suggestion, it was decided to refer the matter. to the General Committee for a report. "> , With a view'to widening Butcher's Lane the Town Clerk was instructed to write to the. owner, of a property, in Butcher's Lane asking the price required for the necessary land. .

The Royal Visit. In connexion with the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York to Timaru on March 16th, the Waimate branch of tho. IjTew' Zealand Federation of Drapers and Boot Retailers, wrote to the . Borough Council, expressing disapproval of the closing of business premises on March 16th at the same time expressing their whole-hearted homage to their Highnesses. The Mayor said that neither Geraldine nor Temuka, was declaring a holiday and Waimate might just as well fall into line with those towns. At the same time he expressed the hope that he would be supported at the function at Timaru by a strong representation of responsible people and that employers would encourage any Girl Guides or Boy Scouts in their employ to be present.' The Mayor's suggestion was acted upon and no holiday will be declared. Personal. Mr-"and Mrs E. B. Wright have returned from a holiday trip to North Canterbury. Mr and Mrs P. Grant have left upon a visit to the North Island. Miss Noeline Curtis of Lyttelton is spending a holiday in Waimate with her aunt Mrs T. Turnbull (Edward street). Mr aud Mrs E. P. Harris have returned from a motoring trip to ?*orth Canterbury. * Meeting of Creditors.
