UNEMPLOYMENT.
A WELCOME OFFER. LEADERS CRITICISED. An offer of £2OO to the unemployment relief fund was made at the meeting in Victoria square on Saturday morning by a man who gave, his name an A. P. McKay, of Hereford street. He told the men that his cheque would be waiting for them when they called for it, and suggested that it should be used for the opening of a soup-kitchen or something of that nature There was considerable discussion as to whether Mr Sidney Fournier bad been appointed spokesman of the unemployed at the deputation to the Hon. Mr McLeod the dpv before. The meeting had appointed Messrs H. Dunkiey, E. L. Hills, and F. Ilollowav as their delegation, although Mr Fournier held that he should be spokesman through his office of president. There ap|K?ared to be some dissatis faction among a section of the unemployed men regarding the men who had get themselves up as leaders. These men were not typical of the unemployed, they said, and were likely to do more harm than Rood by antaconisin[» tho men who rould give work. A lot of talking was on. but the position did not. appear any clearer than it had weeks before.
