BOY DROWNED.

ANOTHER JUST SAVED. SAW HIS MATE SINK. [THE PHEBS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, February 11. A sad drowning tragedy occurred at Shelly Beach shortly before 4 o'clock this afternoon. The victim was Lawrence William Moylan, aged 11 years, son of Mr William Moylan, of Ariki street, Grey Lvnn. It appears that Moylan was a pupil of a swimming class held &t the baths nearby by the Ponsonby Swimming Club every Friday afternoon. After the class had been dismissed at 3.20, .a number of boys, including Moylan, left the baths and bathed in the tidal water to the west of the baths. For some time they were playing with planks floating on the surface of the water, when it was noticed thev were getting into difficulties. A , man anc * a boy swam out from the beach and returned with a boy named Brewer, who was in an oxhaust- ? j St u tc ' After artificial respiration »ad been applied, the bov recovered, and, pointing in the direction of the water, stated that he had seen Moylan gink. This was the first indication Riven that Moylan had got into difficulties.

In the meanwhile dragging operations were commenced, and a. number of bystanders and swimmers trom the baths assisted in the efforts made to recover the bodv. Later two dinghies joined in the search.
