—♦ — RECORD FOR JANUARY. IFBOII OCR OWN COHBESFOSDEST.) SYDNEY. February J. After a long, dry spell, a pheuomcual rainfall was recorded on the North Coast of New South Wales last month. I According to official returns. 34 inches fell at Mullumbimby, the highest that has ever been known for January, the average for the month being 658 points. At Byron Bay, 2SJ inches were recorded, the average for January being being 533 points. Other centres which received heavy downpours were: Murwillumbah 2724 points (average 964): Rallina. 2.362 (oGO); Tweed Heads. 2132 (775); Lisuiorc. 1739 <o38): Coil's Harbour, 1723 (j.jfll: Casino. IG3I (312); and Kvogle. 1371 (-321). During the iaot ten days of the month, rain never ceased to fall for :.ny length of time at most of these places. The district is crossed by many rivers, which several times threatened to flood extensive areas. The damage dono to roads, culverts, ar.d hridces is I'siin-ntod at many thousands of pounds.
