Under the provisions of the Copyright Acts of Australia and New Zealand, it is an infringement of copyright to perform, or cause or permit to be performed in public, any copyright musical work, without the consent of the owner of the copyPermits are issued by the under-mentioned Association, authorising the performance in public of its repertoire, which embraces practically the entire copyright music of the world, by virtue of affiliation with the Performing Right Societies of the following nations: England, France, U.S.A., Italy, Spain Sweden, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czecho-Slovakia. Public performance in Australia and New Zealand of all copyright musical works vested iri these Societies is controlled by the Australasian Association, which is authorised to take legal action if the rights of its members are infringed. It was stated at the inquest at Croydon on William Hayes, aged 38, a clockm.nker. of Highbury, when a verdict of '••fiui-ide while of unsound mind was recorded, that he drank spirits of salts under a railway arch at Coulsdon_on the day fixed for his wedding. Evidence was given that the man had been heavilv in debt. The woman he had arranged to marry was now in hospital owing to a heart attack. She had made a statement that Hayes came to her on December 11th, and appeared worried and distressed. The following day she went to the church at the appointed time, 11.45 a.m., with her friends, and waited until 4.80, but the bridegroom did not come.
