Owing to member* of the Council being engaged with their harvest, the ordinary meeting of the Connty Council, which ii usually held in the daytime, waa held on 'Thursday evening. There were presentCouncillors W. Btalker (chairman), M. C. Ormandy, B. Macdonald, A. Mcintosh, J. Brosnan, H. Tallott, and G. K. Cryeell.

Tho Electrical Engineer reported that the Btafi was engaged in constructional work during the month. The new line to Coldstream was livened up on January 7th, »nd the extension along Beach road, Waikuku, was completed and livened up about the end of the month. Fiv« new consumers were connected, including an electric range and water heater. Power wa« supplied to a 10 h.p. motor at the Waikuku woolworks, and three consumer* had additional heating and power points installed. The report was received. The foreman's report was also received. In detailing the work carried out during the month the report stated that the shingling of the Main North road from the Ashley riverbed had been continued, 425 yards having been spread at a cost of 6s lOd per yard Repairi had been made to the Main North road, Gresson'* road. Woodend road, and the Drain road. Repairs had been made to the flood-gates at tho Cam river, and two new ones put in. The treasurer'* statement for the month showed the receipt* to have been:—Sates, Rangiora Riding £222 Us Id, Cust Biding £23 is lOd; rents, £BS 10s; Hospital Board rates, £B3 14a 10dj aala of electrio current, £771 13s; Main Highways Board, £123 8s 4d; Ashley River Trust rates, £29 17s 9d; Waimakariri River Truat rates, £ll 16s 7d; other items £2 3s 6d-total £IBO3 0s lid. Tho bank debit balance on the general account wa B £1560 9s 3d, and the electrio light loan account abowed a credit of £1489 4b SH. The rate* atruck were:—For the Eangiora Biding £4341 18s 7d, collected £742 7s; Cust Biding £663 17e Bd, collected £57 19s lOd. Total rates outstanding £4231 9s. A clause in the foreman'* report regarding repairs to the Council's steam engine gave rise to some disouseion regarding the purchase of » new one, and Cr«. Mcintosh and Tallott were asked to go into the ques- ; tion of purchasing a new engine and sub- , mit a report at the next meeting. The «ame committee was appointed to enquire into the question of up-to-date road maintenance machinery, snd wa« asked to inspect the Waipara County Council equipment, and to visit Christchurch if necesssry. This will also be reported on at the next meeting of the Council. A requeet from the Medical Officer of Health that the Council make- a larger levy towards the services of the District Health Inspector waa acceded to. The Waimakariri Biver Tiust wrote enclosing, an account for £154 Is, covering the Council's half-share of the cost of cutting nnd pulling willows in the Cam river.
