TURF GOSSIP. Xortinationi close on Monday for the Dannevirke Racing Club's Autumn Meeting. There will be racing to-day at Dun•din, New Plymcmth, Gisborne, and Rotorua. A4vk«a Motived from our special corrttpondent at Dunedin Late last •vening atated that the weather was very promising for today's races at Wingatui. loMrmittant shower* fell ytttarday morning, bat these would impror* th» track, and the conditions for all eonoarned .would be most favourable.

Mr 0. 6. Dalgaty has a good record in the dadaion of the Dunedin Cup. He won the event in 1906 and 1907 Kith' Stepdancer, in 1909 with Prim, in 191$ with Warttep, and on Thursday Uit with Footfall (ton of Warstep). Baeh of the winnera waa br«d by Mr Dalgety and trained by G. MurrayAynsley.

Count Cavonr suffered injuries- to his hind legs aa a result of the mix-up in the Dunedin Onp on Thursday, and yesterday morning there were signs of inflammation. He has been accepted for ia. the Haalett Memorial Plate today, hot unlets the trouble disappears, be will not be produced. Ea Route, who was reserved fojr Udty'e hurdle race at Dunedin, broke down badly in a gallop yesterday morning, the seat of the trouble being in om of his stifles. In consequence, he was withdrawn from his engagement. Ctntrepiere was not accepted for in either of hit) engagements to-day on account of displaying slight soreness as » result of his race in the Dunedin Oop,

Rapier's injuries rewired when he fill on hit note in the Donedin Cup on Thursday are not considered very sorions, but it was thought advisable not to raoa him tie-day. He will be given • short let-up on his return to Riccarton, but should soon be in active coin* ■ietfon again. The foneral of the promising young horseman, N. 0. Dwyer, took place at Oataera yesterday. The trainer* and jockeys aawmbled at Wingatai were represented at the Donedin station as th» train bearing the, body passed through jaaiarday morning, and placed I wrsttA on the flasket. A number of the • rlseietsrfa faßoy-riders also made

the jonnty to Oamaro to pay their last mpects to their departed comrade. The saoeeasful effort of Flaming Bay at Wingatai on Thursday evidently appaalad to on* Dunedinite as he aagotiatod yesterday for the purchase of tfc» Gtarenoaux flUjr, and it is likely that Mr Froeser wlq effect a sale. Cjbiakwhaat was never in • prominent Msittoo in the Stewards' Handicap at Dottedin on Thursday, and it is evident that hj« will require a good deal ff racing before returning to his best. Be will-he a starter in the Abbotsford Haaiieap totday. but although well trealed by the handicapper, cannot be expected to trouble the opposition. The acceptances for the second day's proaramn»t of the Donedin Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting are considered very satisfactory, and the events bear in open appsarsnoe.

Of fin, eight starters in the Owhiro Bardie Handicap, Coastguard should reseat his first day's performance, and ft* and Kaikahu will probably contest fafmriiian. If Bonomel races generattttr he is the likely one of the ressainder -to upset the prospects of the pair tnentiened.

Sbt two-year-olds figure in the Hopehd, Handicap, and as Silver Coot and Do* Jean wfl] be bracketed on the mafhfaij. * tingle dividend will result. Arrowy will ÜBprore on Thursday's effort, and ba ana Mr Gerard's representatives will carry most support. lift Warrington Handicap has attracted i field of eleven, and form potato to the Riccarton-tralned Thorndala, Brightling, and Calcite forming tin placed division. Nincompoop figures at the top of the Ult in the Flying Handicap, and taking a line through his running on Thursday he appears to be worthy of oonsidaration. Lav* and Solrose will probably also attract public patronage. If Front Bank reproduces her Wellington form, then the outcome of the struggle for the Dunedin Jockey Club Haaaicap would not be in doubt, but BaJdowa will find the distance to his liking, and these two will likelr ba the neat favoured. Circulation and Battkvent will also ba in demand. Gold Mint, Martis, and Spean Bridge will most likely attract most patronage in the* Waihola Handicap. %M the prospecte of the last-named * eanaot ba overlooked. , &i*wPr» *»M for &• Abbotsfield Handi-1 MlßtU«ttLho reduced by the fact that! s^JBMPyflt Ifcai Mag the ease, MMppitwalf «ad Shtadra wiU ba in j

Eleven well performed hoi.w are engaged in th*; pniK-ipal ra<e. the Midsummer Handicap, and a highly interesting contest looks assured. Since (he publication of the handicaps Cardinal Logan has been faronrite and is likely to figure in that, position when the totalisator closes. Others that may find favour with the public and race prominently ar« Jack Potts, Black Admiral, Logan Chief, and 0. E. Hooper's elect. In view of bis good work-out at Aldington recentlv. Silk Thread will be hard to beat in the Papanui Handicap. Of the others Escapade and Shine Soon mav make the best display. A number of the best trotters in commission figure in the Cashmere Handicap, and this should t rove one °* the best races of the day. The issue is open, hut a quartet likely to race prominently are Bingenette, Happy Rosa, Rose Bingen, and Blue Thorpe. Rev Logan has been set a hard taak to win the Juvenile Handicap from 106 yds, and he and the others engaged look to be held safe by Author Jinks, Bonnie Prince, and Rose Logan, the last-named a half-sister to Master Audo. . Logan Holme, whose form this season has" been most consistent, reads well on 48yds in the Liverpool Handicap, as also does Bold Bill and Homer, both on 24yds. With a Bhort limit of 36yds the Craven Handicap should prove an interesting contest. F. Holmes holds a strong hand with Talaro and Bonny Tx>gan, but J. J. KennerleT s pair, Natire Chief and Pet«r Bingen will be backed, also Taurekareka and Golden Deron. The following is the programme: SPRETDON HANDICAP (In hirnein). of 300 «<m.
