CHURCH ASSOCIATION HOSTILE. "MEDIAEVAL THEORIES" CONDEMNED. (BT CABLE —-rJtESS ASSOCIATION— COfVSIOHT.) (AISTRALIAX AND K.I. CABLE ASSOCUTICK.) LONDON, February l>. The Church Association has issued a manifesto urging all desirous of maintaininc tho principles of tho Reformation to oppose the authorisation of ail alternative Prayer Book, and declares that the anarchical conditions prevailing in the Anglican Church are mainly due to the bishops disregarding their Consecration vows. Tlk revision proposals. they state, arc a reversion to media-val theories and practices. For example, the alternative Consecration prayer contained in the petition is that bread and wine "ninv be unto us tlie Bodv and Blood c,f Thy -Son." which the Church thrice rejorted. The reinstatement of such a pernicious doctrine is a betrayal of trust, providinc shelter for teaching wliieh the Prayer Book and Article* esI'ludc. Tho manifesto opposes vestments as likely to lead t > blasphemous tenches, also reservation, ard prayers for the dead, the last of which is superstitious.
OPINION IN U.S.A. CHANGES APPROVED. (AUSTRALIAN A.VD 5.2. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) « NEW YORK. February 9. The New York Episcopal clergymen, commenting oil the proposed changes in the l'rayer Book recommended by the bishops of tho Church of England, declare tho more important of these follow the changes adopted by tie Protestant Episcopal Chuicli intno United States, instancing the elimination of the word "obey" from the marriage service. While the phrase, "With all my worldly Roods I thee endow." has been struck from Ue episcopal service, the_ English bishops have modified "endow' to "share." The Bishop of Newark said the proposed changes were interesting, but not sensational nor drastic. The recommendations were intelligent and showed an appreciation of the needs of tho time , The Reverend Dr. Gates who sat on the Episcopal Commission, snid the changes succrested were very conservative. Other clergv generally favour the proposals.
