NEW YORK TO PARIS.
BYRD TO MAKE ATTEMPT. (BT CABLK-PBtSS AMOCIATtOS-CCVTBIOirT.) (AUSTRALIA* AM) *•«■ C* BL " ASSOCIATION) (Received February 9th, 8.10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 8. It is announced that Commander Byrd will attempt a flight from New York to Paris, accompanied by Bennett. He plans to use a Fokker aeroplane similar to that which he used in his Polar expedition. He hopes to take- off in May. [Three other aviators are at present preparing to attempt the flight from New York to Paris. Lieut. Noel Davis, a United States Naval reservist, is furthest advanced, expecting to make the flight in July or August next. He hopes to obtain an Army bomber of the Huffdeland type. Another entrant is Paul Tnrascon, tho Frenchman, who is considering the utilisation of a specially designed plane able to stand the strain of a heavy load, particularly upon the take-off. Fonck. whoso first attempt ended in disaster will also try again, probably employing a machine built by the same designer. The successful aviator will obtain Rayrnond Ortcig's 20,000-dollar prise.]
