Dental Clinic. .\|.'S>rs W. S. Kerr (chaii mam. A. i.'. lliirdy. and W. 11. linbinson. of the East Ashburton School Committee, and the headmaster. Mr W. W. Carton, have been appointed a committee to make preliminary arrangements '" connexion with the establishment nt* a dental clinic at the School. Although no replies have yet been received from the A Denton. Tinwald. and Borough School Committees, which have been advised of the setting up of the clinic, it is understood that thev will co-operate.

Ashburton Presbytery. The first bi-monthly meeting of the Ashburton Presbytery since the New Year was held on Tuesday, when the Moderator, the Rev. A. I>. Kirkland (Mavfield) presided. The Rev. A. S. Morrison (Kakaia) reported that the Rev. R. M. Uyburii, Director of Youth Work, would visit the various congregations next month. The Home Mission Committee reported having made u grant of £2O per annum to the Wakanui congregation.

The plans of tho now church, at a cost of between £SOO and £OOO, with a seating capacity of 100, to be erected at Carow, were submitted by the Moderator, and approved by the Presbytery. It was' decided to congratulate the .congregation upon its forward move. Under the sustentation fund scheme St. Andrew's Church (Ashburton) is assessed as an aid-giving congregation and Rakaia and Mcthven arc assessed :U £.IOO a year each for ministerial stipend, Tinwald-Flemington _£2">o, Hinds £220, and Mayfield £285. The fact that the clerk, the Rev. W. Marshall, -would attain his scmi-.iubi-leo as a minister of the church, was mentioned by the Moderator an.l the Presbytery placed on record its appreciation of his years of work and service., Mr E. Buchanan was appointed the Sunday School's representative at tho Dominion Sunday Schools' Council, which will meet at Auckland at Easter.

Barr reported that the grounds were in first-class order, and improvements had been carried out to the new croquet green. While chopping wood on the farm of Mr T Dalv, of Fairton, yesterday, a man named Arrell had one of his eyes injured with a piece of wood, which flew up from the block. He was admitted to tho Ashburton County Hospital, but was later sent on to Christchureh for special treatment. War Memorial. Specifications for a Var Memorial for Ashburton, to be erected in Baring Square West, have been approved by tho Ashburton War Memorial Committee, which had decided to call for competitivo designs for the structure within New Zealand only. METHVEN. The usual monthly meeting of the Ml. Hutt Road Board was held on Tuesday. Mr Jas. Carr presided, and there were also present Messrs W. W. Goodwin, F. W. Ruddenklau, and DHampton, The clerk's report ou the work for the past month was received. The Government Land Valuer had visited Methven and valued various properties in and adjacent to the township. A visit had been received from' "Mr Simpson, Public Works Engineer, who had inspected portions of roads in tho district in company with tlie chairman. The chairman introduced the question of woolclassing classes for the Methven district, and moved that at the nest meeting of the Board a representative be appointed to confer with the Technical School authorities. Mr A. F. Marr applied for permission to plough the road frontage adjoining Ins propertv. The application was «ranteci subject to the usual conditions. The Methven Dcmain Boanl wrote supporting .1 motion- passed hv a special meeting of ratepayers to constitute a special rating urea in the township. Tho matter was left for discussion at the next meeting of the Board. The transfer of a leasa from J. Hi libs to Milligan and Owers was approved. The District Traffic .Manager. New Zealand Railways, wroto acknowledging the Board's suggestions in referent* to improvements ~in the passenger accommodation on the Methven branch train. Tho chairman reported that it had been found impossible to nrofiure the necessarr implements to harvest grass seed in the Domain. The secretary reported that the springboard at the bnths required immediate attention, nnd he was instructed to get an estimate of the cost of the necessary repairs.

MOUNT SOMERS. Sunday evening's shower (18 points) cooled tho air after the hot, oppressive ner'-west conditions, besides being most beneficial to grass pastures, nnd rape and turnip crops. Pleasant, cool, easterly conditions have been experienced since. A good downpour of rain is badly needed, as grass is drying off and the growth of turnips and rape is being stunted. Farmers are working long hours making all haste with the harvest, and as is usual at such periods all available labour is employed. Some farmers have experienced difficulties in engaging sufficient labour. Reports from the Bucclenck district state that furmers are in the midst of harvest, and are now at work ou their wheat erops, which give every promise of fulfilling the earlier expectations of record yields. The school dance, in aid of the picnic fund, has been postponed a fortnight, owing to harvest operations.
