AUCTIONS. H. MATSON AND CO. HMATSO.V iind CO. REPORT ON . THE ADDINOTON MARKET AS FOLLOWS:— STORE SHEEP. Nearly the whole of the rem. on the eait tide of the cattle race were occupied with ■lor* sheep, and as a whole the quality was most unattractive, bleary-eyed and lame, every lot itemed to have 33 per cent of culls, and 50 per cent, of tho entry was white and dust-stained, and one could count on one hand the evenly-bred, attractive aheep that it ao dear to the heart of the Canterbury faltener. Tho attendance of the buying public was not a large one, but It was well maintained right to the close of the sale., Manipulators from all parti of Canterbury were hanging on to the last to sec if there was an honest copper to be earned, one or two visitors from Oamaru and Timaru also stopped to the finish. Many a time we heard tho opinion expressed that the store sheep market was going t0 'nllap.se. This vc do not believe for on;- moment. While there are lots of sheep making toward! Canterbury, v.-e are of tho firm 'ipinion that Canterbury Is able to absorb theni jo lon* as tho prices ar" rijht. To-day, best two-tooth ewes were n-llitcr any., here from 31s to 31s, unevenly woolled and light in the bone, low and medium qualities v -'cro soiling from K,s to SSs: four tooth onti in the wool, .shipped, r-.irly shorn. (hewing the signs of travel, sold at 2?s: numerous lines of ev.-es that were sold as five and aix-yenr-oid. but which might be seven, sold anywhere from in< to Ms for the best «if them, and others from 4s to H«. LAMBS sold from 18s to Sis. low and medium sold from 14a to Hs. There was hardly a good forward or attractive lamb penned, they all showed signs of slipping back, or they represented breeds or classes that the fattener was not came to speculate nn. WETHERS, six and eight-tooth, early shorn were passed in at £1; fairly attractive wethers might be quoted round about 18s to 225. Personally, we consider the prices today were quite equivalent to the previous market, taking into consideration the quality of the lots offered. Nearly the whole of the entry came from localities outside of Canterbury. Numerous opinions were expressed that the market was easier, and In tnls particular direction we do not agree. We conaider the market more than maintained reeent values, and that competition from both ■peculator!, and graziers was consistent throughout. Those vendors who considered that the market was easier have got to take into consideration the fact that the consignment* that they arc sending forward do not represent the goods, hence they cannot expect to get first-class prices for accond-class ■rtielen. FOR BEST RESULTS CONSIGN YOUR BTOCK TO H. MATSON and CO., ADDINOTON. FAT SHEEP. There we» a good entry of fat sheep, and wherever the Canterbury standard of Onewoolled iheep with a bloom were offered they were responsible for attracting keen competition. Larger sheep, such sa the Romney, ■nd the heavy weight at the present time, teem* to be at a diacount. The heavy tallowy ewe of the crossbred type also has lost favour with the tradesmen at the present juncture. Handy aheep likely to produce ■lcely grained joints are what the trade require. The result is that as tho sale progressed there teemed to be an irregularity in values, but It la all resultant from failure on the part of the grailer to recognise that the time is not favourable to offer anything In the way of cross-grained, over-fat, or bigboned, heavy earcaaei. Nearly the whole t>( tho entry wet cleared, and, in our opinion, we consider that prices were well maintained, and well up to achedule rates. There wab not much quotable difference to laat week, but, if anything, prices to-day were ■lightly firmer all-round, and the aale finished lip Ann. Some of our best tales were as follows:—• T. Voyce, Templeton, ewes to 30s Id. A. Cowl*, Woodgrove, ewes to 34s lOd. J. Connor, Chertiey, wethers to 38s lOd. T. Mlteholl. Laurlston, wethers to 27s lOd. •T. K. Forrester, Hawarden, wethers to 27s Id.

Paparua Prison Farm, ewes to 20a Id. FAT LAMBS. ' Then «u a toUl entry of 3100, of which B. Matson ind Co.'* entry was 800. Prices opened on a par with the previous week and hardened ae the sale proceeded. This was •specially noticeaVe wherever the pens were fit really good quality. In our opinion the prices given "Unlay for all lambs fit for export exceeded tho schedule rates and generally taking tho sals as a whole we are of tin opinion that prima quality lambs wero quite Is to Is 6d in excess of the previous week. Extra good lambs told from 80s lOd to 81a 4d, good. lambs from 97a to 28s 6d, second ilar to tho t consignments with numerous plaint among them made from 25s 4d to 26s 6d, lambs that were slipping back ana < unfinished made from 03s lOd to 265, and I light and hard plain lambs made 21* 6d to S3* 4d, shorn .
