CANTERBURY MARKETS

. POTATOES IMPROVE. (BT OL'S COIIIIZBCUL IDITOB.) Tuesday Kvctiing. Purchases of wheat arc taking placeto a moderate extent, but there is no rush about the business. For deliveries this week os yd on trucks has l)een paid, but for delivery "when ready" os Gd for Tuscan and 5s 7d for Hunters is the prevailing quotation. As usual there is a difference of opinion as to the prices the present value of Hour will warrant millers paying, but the latter contend that the prices mentioned cover the figure. A gocd dial of wheat has been sold for poultry purposes. Oats and Seeds.

Tho oats und seeds market is unaltered, the absence of a buying demand stopping speculation. The heavy barley yields arc more than supplying tfie wants of contract growers for the time being and "free"' barley is practically impossible of sale. A nominal quotation is 4s on trucks, as against 5s 6d for contract.

Potatoes and Onions. Potatoes aro in better demand. Ihe exceptionally low prices apparently appealed to Auckland traders, who today were buying on a basis of £1 a ton on trucks, 5s a ton more than last week. Values to farmers arc from £2 15s to £2 17s 6d on trucks. Onions arc disposed to be easier, from £3 15s to £4 being quoted on trucks.
