Mr Cyril Ward and Mrs Bernard Wood left last night for Herctaunga to stay with their father, Sir Joseph Ward, who, with his family, will arrive in Christchurch on Friday morning en rcut«*for Bluff, where the funeral ot tlio late Lady Ward will tako place on Saturday. Miss Mona Coath (Auckland), who was bridesmaid yesterday at the Morton—Mathias wedding, leaves to-day to visit Mrs Harrison, South Canterbury. Mrs It. A. Hickman (Timaru) and Mrs McKenzie (Hanmer Springs) are recent arrivals at the Royal Hotel.

Mrs and Miss Marrie were joint hostesses at a charming bridge party, at which Miss Marrie' s many friends in Christchurch were afforded an opportunity of saying goodbye to her.

During the afternoon tea interval at the Swimming Club's annual carnival which was attended by about 200 people, on Saturday, Mr Lyons thanked the LeithJield Club for iis hospitalitv and the district for its interest in swimming, and took the opportunity ot presenting a handsome!v-framed p>c-tu-e of Miss Llovd from the lady members of the United Amateur Swimming Club, Christchurch, in appreciation of her kindness to them during their visits to Leithfield.

A meeting of ladies will be held tomorrow afternoon, at 3 p.m., in the Chamber of Commerce Buildings, corner of Worcester street and Oxford terrace, for the purpose of forming a ladies' branch of the Citizens' Association.

On Saturday evening Miss M. Ilill, who is leaving shortly for Sydney, entertained a number of friends at her home in Travers street, Linwood. The whole of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, recently staged here. were produced under the direction of Miss Everett. At tho Stratford Hospital Board meeting yesterday tho chairman announced that Nurse Stevenson, of Stratford Hospital, had com© top for JS'ew Zealand in the recent State Midwifery Examination, states a Press Association message from Stratford. At the previous examination Nurse Condon, also trained at Stratford, was top lor New Zealand. This record, lie said, was unprecedented in the Dominion.
