CITY RATES.
LARGE TOTAL OUTSTANDING. City ratepayers who contemplate waiting until the last fow days preceding the imposition of the ten per cent, penalty before paying their rates are running the risk of having to stand in a queue. Although the penalty will be added after March 4th, there is still the huge total of £205,213 4s Id outstanding. Thus the Council will require to receive about £IO,OOO per day. Tho levy for 1926-27 is £301,284 18s 7d. The Council's warning to ratepayers states:
"Ratepayers are reminded that the time in which tho 1926-27 rates can be paid without the fine of the 10 per cent, penalty is drawing nigh, and as tho figures will give some indication of tho amount owing by ratepayers it behoves every ratepayer to got in early and pay a visit to the rate department, and help to reduce the overdraft at tho bank."
