THE CANTERBURY CHAMBER OP COMMERCE. ordinary goncral meeting of THE CANTERBURY CHAMBER OP COMMERCE will be held in the Chamber of Commerce, at tho corner of Oxford tcrraco and Worcester street, Christchurch, on FRIDAY, tho 18th day of February, 1927, at 7.45 o'clock p.m., when tho sub-joined Resolutions will bo proposed:— I. THAT the Memorandum of Association of tho Company be altered by substituting for the first two paragraphs of Olauso 3 of the Company's Memorandum of Association the following clauses, namely:— 3. Tho promotion and protection of tho commercial, industrial, agricultural, and pastoral interests of the Provinco of Canterbury and tho Dominion of New Zealand. 4. The fostering and development of the Primary aud Secondary Industries of the said Province and of tho said Dominion. 5. Tho consideration of all questions connected with the economical and commercial lifo of the said Provinco and of the said Dominion, including matters of importance (directly or indirectly) to the said Dominion or the British Empire, and including all matters affecting tho trado relations of Now Zealand with foreign countries as well as all other parts of the British Empire. 6. Tho co-operation of or affiliation with other Chambers of Commerce or other organisations in any part of the world having similar objects as theso for tho purpose of promoting and developing mutual commercial interests or for the obtaining or circulating of commercial statistics or information. 7. The provision of leadership and guidance for the community in the solution of all commercial, Industrial, agricultural, and pastoral problems, and to represent and express on all such questions tho opinions of tho commercial community. 8. Tho promoting or opposing of legislative or other measures affecting trade or commerce, such as transport by land, sea, or air, means of communication, immigration, land settlement, and measures concerning tho mutual rights and duties of omploycr and employed and all other matters directly or Indirectly affecting the trading and commercial life of the said Provinco and of tho said Dominion. 9. Tho collection and dissemination of statistics and Information relating to trade, commerce, shipping, and manufactures. 10. The undertaking of the settlement of any disputes arising out of trade or commerce, by arbitration. 11. Tho encouragement of Education, with special reference to tho development of Commercial, Technical, and Scientific Education and Research Work in any School, Collego, or University in tho Province or Dominion cither by grants or contributions in money or by tho founding or granting of bursaries, scholarships, or the like. 12. (.a) To provldo rooms, books, papers, information, and general accommodation for its members for the time .. . (f) To borrow money and to give mortgages, debentures, guarantees, or other securities therefor over all nr any of the assets of the Chamber, provided, however, that tho estate and effects, real and personal, only of tho Chamber shall be pledged or liable for tho debts of tho Chamber, and that lo personal liability beyond tho amount of Is per member shall attach to any member thereof. (g) To, lend any funds upon mortgage or other security. (h) To invest any funds in such manner • as may be deemed advisable, (i) To receive or release mortgages or other securities, (j) Generally to do all such other things as may appear to bo incidental or conducivo to the attainment of the above objects or .any of them, and it is hereby declared that in tho in--1 terprctatlon of this clause tho mcan- ! ing of any of the Chamber's object's shall not be restricted by reference » to any other object or by the juxtaposition of two or more objects, and that in the event of any ambiguity in any clause such shall be construed in such a way as to widen and not to restrict the powers of tho Chamber, and that tho lost paragraph of Clause 3 of the Company's Memorandum of Association be deleted, and that the clauses of tho whole Memorandum of Association be renumbered accordingly. p.
