FREEZING WORKS DISPUTE.

COMPANIES AND FARMERS. "INTERESTS IDENTICAL." (r.'.rss ussocmioN telcgsak.) WELLINGTON, K-bruary 7. T'.j statement that meat freezing companies are more concerned to have industrial peace, irres]x-ctivo of increased waxes, than to protect farmers against increased charges, was flatly contradicted to-day by Mr Milne, ou I: Isalf of the meat freezing companies. The interests of companies and farmers in the question of the costs of freezing, -Mr Milne stated, were common, and freezing companies were just as anxious as farmers to keep down charges. If such were not the case, whv !d companies last year firmly and successfully resist claims made!-' And why were they again resisting the claims made this year? Of course, freezing companies desired industrial peace, as most sensible people did, but not pence at any price. For the past six years, the meat freezing industry hud enjoyed a fair measure of industrial j>oacc. There had been disputes, but these lia<] been adjusted, and in such a manner that there had been no increase in the charges whatever to the farmer. On i'.c contrary generally speaking, charges had been reduced. Mr Milne added that freezing companies wanted to co-operate whole-heartedly with farmers in resisting nnv unfair demands made, and intended to do so to the best of their ability. It was so obvious that their interests were identical that lie was astonished to find any douMs raised on the subject. At any rate, he was pleased to be able to give a Gat, contradiction to erroneous ideas on the subject, which were being circulated in some quarters. CHRISTCHURCH STOCK EXCHANGE.
