FARMERS' TRAINS.

WEST COAST FAVOURABLE.

Mr F. Pawson, commercial agent, N.Z.R., has returned from a tour ot the West Coast, where he met the various branches of the Farmers' Union, .and outlined the Department's proposal to run a farmers' train to Canterbury, with the objects of fostering closer relations between the two provinces and providing settlers with an opportunity for studying Canterbury farming methods. In every pjace he visited a warm welcome awaited him, and the project received the unanimous support of the farmers. The branches appointed delegates to a meeting of the Provincial Executive of the Union, when information will be compiled ns to the number able to make the trip, and the farmers prepared to accommodate Canterbury farmers in the event of a train being arranged for those in this province. Mr Pawson will be present at this conference.

He anticipates that he will lie able to complete the arrangements for the train to run in June. Included in the places of interest over which it is intended to conduct tho visitors are the Addinston yards, freezing works, and one of the manure works.

Mr Pawson intends placing a similar project for a party of Canterbury farmers to visit the" West Coast in the slack part of the year before the Farmers' Union branches at nn early date.
