CITY STREETS.
MR GALBRAITH'S REPORT. The report being prepared by the City Knginecr, Mr A. It. tialbraith, detailing his scheme for tho reconstruction of tho Cily .•streets, h almost completed. Mr Y.. 11. Andrews, chairman of the Works Committee of tho Cily Council, replying yesterday to an enquiry from representative of Thk Truss if the that Mr Gnlbraith's report was almost liuisltcd. The portions that havo been completed are now being typed in sections and will be distributed to members, of the Works Committee when ready, so that they may study each section as it is ready. The complete report will bo discussed probably at a special meeting of the Works Committee to bo convened after its members have studied the document.
• Mr Andrews was asked for a forecast of the report, but he declined to be drawn. Mr Andrews has already declared that lio does not favour very heavy reconstruction methods, such as the laying of concrete roads, though he admits that in sonio parts of tho City, where traffle is exceptionally heavy, it mav bo necessary to adopt Hint method". With the deputy-mayor (Mr C. P. Agar), it is Mr Andrews's intention, while in the North Island attending tho Municipal Conference, to examine some of the road reconstruction work carried out in different localities. Tho Wcllington-Hutt road, which Mr Andrews examined a year or so ago, will receive special attention. As to the poll on tho road reconstruction scheme, Mr Andrews said that it had never been in his mind that there was any possibility of the loan proposals being submitted to the ratepayers simultaneously with the polls for the elections of mayor and city councillors. He questioned if it would be wiso to submit loan proposals of such importance concurrently with tho municipal elections.
